About Ortofon A great success story began on October 9, 1918, when two Danish engineers—Axel Petersen (1887–1971) and Arnold Poulsen (1889–1952)—founded the Electrical Phono Film Company. Their collaborators were a few capable, visionary businessmen who would support the organization financially.

Their goals were to explore the possibility of high-end recording and to develop one of the first synchronized sound film systems in the world.

Under relatively primitive conditions, these two remarkable Danish engineers and their small staff solved numerous issues that were once considered insurmountable, due to technical limitations.
